| Urine Dipstick Control (UDC) |
What is the difference between the Dipper, the Dropper,
and the Dropper Plus?
The urine dipstick control solution is the same in all three products.
However, the packaging configuration, procedure for dipstick testing,
and relative stability are different. With the Dipper, you actually dip
your dipstick into the vial of solution. With the Dropper and Dropper
Plus, you drop the solution onto the reagent pads.
How many tests can I get from one package of each
of the UDC's?
The Dipper is supplied as a two level set with 6 x 15 mL glass vials
of urine dipstick control material, at 20 tests per vial. The Dropper
is a two level set and comes in 4 x 25 mL plastic dropper tip bottles,
at 50 tests per bottle. The Dropper plus is also a two level set and has
10 x 5 mL bottles, at 10 tests per bottle.
Does the Dipper or Dropper come
with dipsticks?
No. These products are controls for the strips. We do not sell the strips.
How often do I need to run controls?
According to CLIA regulations, you should follow the manufacturer's directions
for controls. If the directions do not include information about controls,
then you should follow good laboratory practices. Most tests instruct
the labs to run controls within 8 hours prior to running patient samples.
It is also recommended that a normal and an abnormal control are run.
Why are there two levels? Do I need to run both
each time?
Level 1 is the normal control and level 2 is the abnormal control.
Most CLIA auditors would like to see both control materials run to verify
that the test can detect both normal and abnormal results.
Can I use QuanTscopics as a urine dipstick
control?
No. QuanTscopics is strictly for microscopic evaluation of urine sediment.
Can I use the Dipper or the Dropper for microscopic
evaluation?
These products are not spiked with RBC's or WBC's.
My urine dipstick control arrived at room temperature.
Is it still okay to use?
These products are shipped with a two day delivery with blue ice. If their
ship date is less than three days prior, no preliminary testing is needed.
If that period is longer, we recommend that you check for turbidity, make
sure there is no precipitate present by inverting product several times,
and run the controls to see if you get the expected results. If the control
falls out of range, discontinue use.
We left our UDC on the counter. Can we still
use it?
The Dropper Plus is stable at room temperature for 30 days.
If the control was unintentionally left out, we recommend that you check
for turbidity, make sure there is no precipitate present by inverting
the product several times, and run the control to see if you get the expected
results. If the control falls out of range, discontinue use.
Can I use the UDCs for pregnancy test kits?
If so, which kits?
All of our urine dipstick controls can be used for monitoring hCG kits.
We have tested the UDCs on a number of different kits, but realize that
we have not tested ALL the kits available. If the kit is not listed on
our package insert, you may test in-house to develop your own ranges.
What is the targeted value for hCG in the UDCs?
Our target value for formulation of our level 2 control is 400 mIU/mL.
Level 1 is a negative control and does not contain any hCG.
